Summary: VikingComics does not collect, store or share any personal data on our servers. Your comics, progress and annotations live on your device and optionally in your private iCloud.
1. Data stored on your device
VikingComics stores locally:
- Comic and ebook files you import (CBZ, CBR, PDF, EPUB)
- Reading progress, favorites, bookmarks and annotations
- Tags, collections and per-page notes
- App preferences
- Aggregate local usage counters (only if you explicitly opt in)
None of this data is sent to servers we own.
2. iCloud (optional)
If iCloud is enabled, your library and progress sync via VikingComics' private container inside your own iCloud. Only your Apple ID can access that information. Apple manages encryption in transit and at rest. We do not see that data.
3. Remote sources
If you set up connections to Kavita, Komga, SMB, WebDAV, OPDS, Google Drive, Dropbox or other remote services, the app connects directly to those services with the credentials you provide. We do not intermediate or store those credentials outside your device's Keychain.
4. Reading trackers
If you connect AniList or MyAnimeList, upon completing a comic the app will push the series title and progress to those services via their official API using your OAuth authorization. We do not see or store that information.
5. Automatic metadata
To enrich your library the app performs public queries to providers such as ComicVine, Tebeosfera, MangaUpdates, Google Books, OpenLibrary, GCD, AniList search and Metron. The queries include the comic's title/series but no personally identifiable information.
6. Diagnostics and crash reports
We use Apple's MetricKit to collect crash and performance reports. These reports are stored on your device by default. They are only shared if you manually send them via the "Report Issue" button (which opens Mail attaching the info to info@theviking.me).
7. Analytics
The app includes optional local counters (reading sessions, comics completed, etc.). Disabled by default. If you enable them, the data stays on your device โ nothing is sent over the network by default.
8. Purchases (In-App Purchases)
Payments for the Pro version are processed by Apple via StoreKit. We only receive Apple's confirmation that the purchase was completed, in order to unlock Pro features. We have no access to your payment method.
9. Advertising and tracking
VikingComics has no advertising, does not use tracking SDKs, does not send data to marketing networks and does not do fingerprinting. No third-party analytics. Ever.
10. Children's privacy
VikingComics is suitable for all ages 4+. By not collecting data, it complies with COPPA and other children's privacy regulations.
11. User-imported content
The app allows importing comic/book files you already own. You are responsible for having the corresponding rights over that content. VikingComics does not monitor or analyze the content of imported files beyond the optional metadata enrichment (via file title).
12. Your rights
As we do not collect personal data on our servers, there is no data to request from us, modify or delete. If you uninstall the app, all local information is automatically deleted. Data in iCloud is managed from Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > VikingComics on your own device.
13. Changes to this policy
If we update this policy we will publish the new version here with the corresponding date. Substantive changes will also be announced within the app.
