Summary: VikingRadio does not send any personal data to our own servers. All syncing uses your own iCloud account. No analytics, no trackers, no third-party advertising.
1. Data controller

2. Data we store (all local)
VikingRadio stores the following information only on your device (iOS/macOS UserDefaults):
- Preferences (language, audio quality, dark mode, equalizer, sleep timer)
- Playback history and listening statistics
- Songs identified by Shazam and marked as saved
- Podcast episode states (played, interested, downloaded)
- Per-artist notification preferences (Artist Watch)
3. iCloud sync
If iCloud is enabled, VikingRadio syncs favorites, saved songs, podcast subscriptions and episode states through your own iCloud account (CloudKit + Key-Value Store). This data is end-to-end encrypted by Apple; VikingRadio never has access to it on any of our own servers.
4. Sign in with Apple (optional)
If you choose to sign in with Apple, your userIdentifier (Apple's anonymous stable identifier) and — if you share them — your email and name are stored locally. Nothing is sent to any third party.
5. Third-party APIs
- Apple iTunes Search API and iTunes RSS Feed Generator: public podcast catalog. No authentication required. No personal data sent.
- Radio station streams: HTTPS/HTTP URLs of third parties. VikingRadio opens direct connections to the station's server to play the audio; we do not process or store the content.
- RadioBrowser (catalog fallback): public API, no authentication.
- MusicKit (Apple Music): only if you connect it voluntarily. Used to enrich metadata and add songs to your own playlist.
- ShazamKit (Apple): song identification via Apple's local service.
- Spotify Web API: only if you link your account via OAuth. Used to add songs to your own playlist.
6. Analytics and trackers
VikingRadio includes no Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Facebook SDK or any third-party tracker. We do not measure usage. We do not profile the user.
7. System permissions (all optional)
- Microphone: only if you enable live audio transcription (opt-in feature).
- Speech Recognition: same as above.
- Music (MusicKit): only if you connect Apple Music.
- Location: only if you request "nearby stations".
8. CarPlay and Apple Watch
CarPlay projects the playback UI into the car with no additional data collection. The Apple Watch syncs with the paired iPhone via WatchConnectivity (locally, device to device).
9. Pro subscription
VikingRadio Pro is managed entirely by Apple's StoreKit. Payment is processed by Apple; VikingRadio only receives the verified entitlement that unlocks premium features.
10. User rights (GDPR)
- Access: all your data is on your device and your iCloud. You can view it through Apple's native apps.
- Rectification: directly from the app.
- Erasure: uninstalling the app wipes local data. You can clear iCloud from Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage → VikingRadio.
- Portability: the Backup feature (Pro) exports all your activity as signed JSON.
11. Children's privacy
VikingRadio is rated 4+. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not collect personal data requiring parental consent.
12. Changes to this policy
Any material change will be notified via an app update. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
